The Dangers of Academic Credentials

Learning is wrapped in questioning. Education is simply not going to school. What majority refer to as education is absolutely not. They failed to understand that real education is questioning in disguise. Oftentimes, I had lost in thoughts with an overwhelming curiosity. My curiosity got me into thinking that led to my several questioning prompts, such as; how did education began? Who are the founders of education to humanity? Which university/ies did they attend? How did they come about the idea of education?

Interestingly, I realized that they went to universities of questioning and thought. It has left me with a lasting insight that great achievers are largely products from question-asking and answer-seeking, and not from the popular notion of the highly educated. Nowadays, it’s a pity to recognize that the underlying aim of many that attend school is to obtain Academic Credentials, and perhaps, to come out with good grades. And consequently, they have neglected the actual meaning of education which is solicitude and devotion to learning. In all, the first seem to be their ultimate targets.

What people termed as education could be chaotic with several subjects that imbricate each other. Questioning on the other hand pulls together one’s energy toward a given task. Energy pulled together is extremely powerful. Thus, it liberates one and destroys oneself limitations; mentally, physically and spiritually. The concept of subjects in this misinterpreted education also has gotten jiggled. The reason is just simple. In the pursuit of this various subjects, we have wrongly accepted that our life can be broken in such categories unquestionably.

We should pursue learning and not going to school. Questioning on the other hand is what activates the learning process. The mission of questioning is to bring forth new information. When new information emerges, learning then occurs. With this, I discovered that knowledge is the acquisition of new information. Questioning therefore is the integral part of this knowledge acquisition which invariably is the art of learning.

We need to understand that the duty of questioning is to cause us to break barriers, while going to school leaves us within a certain mental prison. This mental prison is what the author of bestseller book and renowned preacher, Robert H. Schuller has described as locked-in-thinking. And this wherewithal called questioning frees us from locked-in-thinking and agnoism—knowledge deficient. Your education status notwithstanding, with this tool—questioning—you will conveniently grab the world of knowledge and enlightenment, and outstandingly outwit the well-educated group.

Wherever you see a succeeding person, there is a person that puts on a questioning cap. Show me an invention or a product, and I will quickly show you the crucial role questioning played in its origination. Is there someone who rose majestically to the top? Well, that is someone who followed the pathway of questioning.

Questioning is the most essential ingredient for every outstanding feat. I want you to know that questioning in itself creates continuous source of supply for learning and knowledge power.

This questioning wherewithal should become our common thread—the tool that helps everyone to overcome barriers in every area of pursuit. Rather, most chose to stack in an inflected paradigm about education. They chose to retain the unreal concept for instituting education. Lots of graduates have resorted to live in the past of their education instead of improving on their future by continuous learning. These graduates continuously seek ways to mould new orders into the structure that for years have been held onto. Such act is putting new wine in an old wine skin. The effect and odor of the old container will corrupt the new content.

Great people are questioners par excellence. They always seek for breakthrough solutions through the channel of questioning. Real education is solidly footed on self-learning, and questioning is the only raw material in the school of self-learning. Going to school only opens us up. It’s then our sole responsibility to school ourselves into the class of excellence, which is for me what real education represents.

Undoubtedly, I believe you may have gained valuable knowledge through an unhindered question. Questioning enriches our skills, deepens our insights and sharpens our actions. The historical importance of questioning is essentially vital for everyone’s learning in order to transfer the process to own life. An inquiry is an act that facilitates access to valuable information and gathering of firsthand comprehensive information toward a given task.

Contrary to people’s assumption, education is not the maker of great feats, but more accurately, questioning paves the way to achieving great feat. The importance of it is unquantifiable. Engage in it fearlessly to obtain the solution needed.

Nigeria @ 54: In Need of Revolutionaries

This year, I have the privilege of joining millions of Nigerians around the world in commemorating our great country's national independence, which is currently beset by pains and pangs crying for help. Despite the backlash I received in 2010 when the country celebrated its 50th birthday, I was hesitant to write this article. My experiences, however, prompted me to write down my reflections.    My sin was mentioning the reasons why, amid the country's poor management, we should commemorate the 50th anniversary of our independence. And my counsel was that we should take that time to both celebrate and reflect on the nation's deplorable state. Thus find solutions to our distressing state and a renewed commitment to successfully resolve them. However, I later came to a conclusion that such chastisement would not force me into silence. Instead, now is the time for me to join the effort to save Nigeria from collapsing. The Nigerian state's soul must be rescued. On this basi
