A Life-Changing Experience

It was an amazing filled day. Something interesting but heart breaking happened, which I am seeking for answer to it. In the noon of today, I and a friend were coming from my apartment; at the corner of the entrance of our condo was a young girl of about 11 years  She was on her school uniform with her school bag, possibly waiting for the school bus to lift her. The moment she saw us, this girl become overly afraid and wanted to pick a race, but no chance to make the run.

When we kept coming closer to her, as we meant to pass to our destination, she started to cry. Honestly, the cry was so loud that it drew attention of the passers-by and those sitting around. To this young school girl, she might have visualized the end of her life having seen two black Africans. Wonders will never end!  I believe she probably might have thought she is seeing a human devouring lions or rather strange beings from other planet …lop!

I’m wondering if we are ghosts or beings from the Mars or Venus …Interesting! I would have loved to visit those planets if giving the opportunity ....laughs! To be candid, I still could not fathom it till this very hour. Her cry drew compassion to my heart that I tried to retrieve to calm her, and also to let her know we are her fellow humans not ghost or human eaters. On the second thought, I see it as a well arranged trap for police invitation or accuse for a rape case.

Instantly, I made on my way to avoid further questioning that might prompt unwarranted arrest. This kind of scenarios has happened to me severally, where kids or teenagers picked a race or started crying on seeing me/us, but the case of today was something extra-ordinary. I lack words to express what exactly happened but my heart is sincerely searching for an answer. The quest to have an answer is not enough, but having a lasting solution to it is my prime aim.

The few questions that have been ringing in my mind are as thus; 1. Was it the kind of information these kids are fed with about blacks that made them to react that way? 2. is there something different being a black to being white?  3. Is it a face problem or character shock? 4, is our appearance and display don’t resemble that of humans? In all these questions, I still could not locate an answer. Therefore, I herein implore the assistance of others to help me in finding the answers? I need an answer to these questions and this kind of incident, and possibly a solution as well!

Now, this is not all about blending or doing in Rome as Romans do. No! Most often, when one tries to blend to fit in perfectly, you still discover some other restrictions that don't allow for full integration.  Many may be complaining of culture shock, but in our case, I have not seen the exhibition of culture that will shock anyone to such a length in giving one this kind of out-casting treatment.

Perhaps, a few will be saying, the characters of African are bad, mostly Nigerians. Character deficiencies are visible in all nations. When I search the most corrupted nations, countries where picking-pocket are prevalent and other form of social vices, you see most notable countries making it to the list, but hardly do they receive this kind of treatments.

It may interest you to know, that Nigeria is a country of 160 million people in population. If 20 million of them are bad for example, does not mean the entire nation are bad. As a matter of fact, when it comes to moral and ethical conducts, most of us are well informed and behaved far better than what I have seen here within this my short time of seeking for knowledge from afar. Please, I would like to be understood here. This is not an incitement to paralyze anyone's thoughts or to anger someone's emotion. Don't see it as an act of boost or brag. No! However, it is a statement of fact made available by a diligent study and research, with proofs to validate it. So I beg for proper analysis of the statement to avoid misinterpretation.

It is high time we stopped generalizing issues and policing others because of what few had done. You don’t condemn the whole egg in basket because of the few bad ones. Such treatment is unacceptable! Though, I don't allow those kinds of ill behavior and treatment to be a threat to me, but today's incident gave me a concern. Every nation and continent has their own culture and character flaws. If we should be treating ourselves based on these flaws and differences, the world won’t have been a conducive place for living by now.
What is the difference between these two hands above or these two individuals below?

The most shocking culture I see here is lack of proper orientation -  misinformation!. The information that was made available to us, either by media or those ahead of us, which has formed the larger percentage of our perception to others and our world. I think the content of the container is better evaluated and valued, instead of the mere deceptive perception of a preconceived information.
